Request to enact a law to end circumcision and piercing children's ears or any other body part

Docket No: 7180/2014

Respected Chief Minister,

Children are the future and therefore, they should be allowed to grow without any kind of unwarranted intervention in their lives by anyone among us.

Though what I am going to say is applicable to all, it is futile implementing that on the present generation mainly because most of us have already gone through it and therefore, we are all already victims of it. We were made blind without our knowledge or permission. I don’t know whether you are aware of it or not, you too are blind.

Children fully believe us and depend on us and due to all these, they are vulnerable. They will accept whatever we give to them without knowing its adverse impact on them and that too with gratitude and therefore, we have a responsibility to give to them only what is good for them.

Very recently, I saw a video clip in FB showing circumcision on a girl child. At the beginning of that video, a 6-7 years old girl was shown full of smile on her face.  From her facial expression, it was certain that she was very happy as there was a function going on in her home. But she had no idea what would happen on her next. There were women including her mother and they were chanting prayers and they were smiling too. Suddenly, a middle-aged man caught that girl on her two legs and spread them so that another man who had a blade in his hand could see that girl child’s private part. She tried to escape from him but in vain. He kept the girl very tight on his lap. Suddenly, the man with blade removed that hapless girl child’s clit. She cried loud but it was too late. While she was crying loud, all men and women there were celebrating it.

Now I would like to bring to your attention many important human behaviors here:

(a)    Children do not protest (it will be of no use even if they, who are defenseless, protest) as they are not aware of these atrocities and the terrible adverse impact such atrocities will bring in their lives.  For example, even if one points a gun at them, they will smile.
(b)   All women including her mother who were present there were happy and willing to circumcise that child. For them it was not a heinous crime against that hapless child but a good religious ritual that should be practiced on all children.
(c)    Men used force to practice that on a child. It was her own father who had spread her legs, that too without her knowledge or permission, before another man to commit that heinous crime on her.
(d)    All those who commented on that FB post, including even Muslims, cried foul. They all found it inhuman and a heinous crime against humanity (Read this sentence time and again till you understand the real danger concealed in it). If it is a heinous crime according to us, how can circumcision on Muslim infants and boys or piercing little girls’ ears be good practices?

Now let me bring some incidents and rituals we are either aware or believe or practice to your notice:

(a)    Hundreds of school children were ruthlessly shot dead in Pakistan by Islamic fundamentalists.
(b)   In order to please a Goddess, hundreds of thousands of animals were slaughtered in Nepal by Hindu devotees.
(c)    Girl s and boys are circumcised in many Muslim countries
(d)   Boys are circumcised in India
(e)   Priests and nuns are not giving birth to children and that way kill their own generations.
(f)     Priests then abuse children.
(g)    Girl children are not given education and they are sent married early
(h)   Human beings are not allowed natural sex and therefore, they masturbate. They abuse women, children and even animals. Then it is called culture.
(i)      Human Gods such as Sudhamani are worshipped
(j)     Religious beliefs are imposed on children without their knowledge or permission.
(k)    Children are baptized.
(l)      Ears are pierced to put ear rings.
(m) Women are not allowed to enter in temples
(n)   Believers spend hours for praying
(o) My daughter is just 6 years old now but she says 'I believe in God, I believe in God' hundreds of times every day.
(o)   You are going to Church on Sundays

There are thousands of such incidents, rituals, practices and habits can be added here.  One important point to be noted here is that if we take each event mentioned above, we can see that at least one person is there who considers it as good, right or holy and vice versa.

I emphatically say that if killing hundreds of school children in the name of a non-existing God or Allah is wrong, your visit to Church to worship a non-existing God and piercing my daughter's ears for wearing ear rings (when I, her father, decided not to do so, her mother calls me mad) are also wrong.

Terms such as ‘believer’ and ‘patriot’ are all good to hear but I emphatically say that a person who says that he is a believer or a patriot is in fact a terrorist.

You know what is the root cause of almost all the problems we face now? We define what is correct and what is wrong according to our convenience and then impose that on others.

Sorry I diverted a bit from the actual point. Let me come to the point please.

Being the Chief Minister, you have the responsibility to protect the weaker section especially children from all kinds of atrocities meted out on them whether it is in the name of religions or culture or whatever it may be.

Stop imposing beliefs and rituals on children. Let them grow in a very natural way with a free and open mind. Don’t let believe systems make them blind by imposing hollow beliefs and Gods on them just the same way your religion and your parents made you blind.  Please let them think logically and naturally. Let them ask questions. Let them search for answers. If you are leaving these hapless children’s fate to be decided by these blind and stupid believers, I say you are not eligible to continue as a Chief Minister.

We have a responsibility towards the coming generations. We must ensure maximum happiness in their lives. As a first step in that direction, I request you to immediately enact a law ending circumcision and piercing ears of children or any such act that leave a mark on child’s body forever. Let Kerala be the first place in this world that enacted such as law to protect our beloved children, the future.

Thanking you in anticipation.

Best regards
Sebastian Thomas
